FYI…

Work has commenced on the underpass of the Telegraph Road bridge where it crosses Duke Street near our neighborhood (see Google Maps image below). I have sent in an e-mail to the City asking for more detail and will post when I have more. You can expect lane closures.

UPDATED – Jan 7, 2010

Got a response from the City this week on our inquiry regarding this work which has now begun:

Thank you for your interest in the City of Alexandria, Bridge Maintenance and Repair project.

This project is part of a city wide bridge inspection program. Specifically, the Telegraph Rd over Duke St bridge work consists of mainly concrete repair, joint sealing, debris removal and repainting. The project contractor is Sagres Construction, Corp. Based here in Alexandria, they have done work for the City before and are well experienced in bridge work.

In your email you asked what the duration of the work would be on the Telegraph Rd over Duke St bridge. Weather permitting, the work is expected to last one month. Also, you inquired about the time of day will work be performed; given that both Duke St and Telegraph Rd are under rush hour time restrictions, work hours are limited to 9:00 AM until 3:30 PM Monday through Friday, with a possibility of some weekend work. Finally, you asked if there will be any lane closures on the above mentioned bridge. There will be rotating lane closures to accommodate the work while maintaining vehicle traffic flow in a safe manner.

Saw a road crew setting up there this morning around 8 am. Duke heading west was down to one lane by 10 am. Time to think about alternate routes.
